I got a haircut last week. It was pretty long and I cut off 10 inches for Locks of Love. It's right over my shoulders now, which is an alright look if you don't mind looking like a little girl on occasion. But I'm glad I donated it.
Yesterday I heard on the news that the Los Angeles School District was going to build a high school that will cost over $170 million dollars. It will be an Arts High School and will have less than 2,000 students.
If you ask me, this is absolutely crazy. The cost is so high, but for who? Less than 2,000 students. I thought they were trying to help the class sizes, but this hardly does anything to bring down the numbers.
Also, an Arts High School. I love the whole idea, but what we need is a regular, well-rounded school. I know there are probably a lot of students who know for a fact they want to go into the arts as a career, but there are others who don't know what they want to be. They go to an art school, and it's chosen for them. Many times when someone goes to a specially directed high school, they are forced to go into the same type of college. What if someone is forced by their parents to go to this school? They are forced into this career without a choice.
Many times this happens because Directed schools don't cover as many as the standards. Thus, one with four years of Drama in high school, is great for London Acadamy of Music, Drama and Arts, but not for UCLA. These are both fantastic schools, but wouldn't one want a choice to which one they wish to attend?
And I would bet a small amount that after this school is built the Los Angeles School District is going to be whining about how their budget is so low. "Don't you want to help the students? We need more taxes! Look at how the President doesn't give us funds!"
Just saying.
