You were right.
If I had gotten clarinet leadership, I wouldn't have been able to go to Tecaté, Mexico.
In three days I'm going to Mexico with my church to build a house (!!!) and lead a Vacation Bible School.
I really want to build a house. I want to work for a charity when I grow up, namely Invisible Children. They are helping children in Uganda who have become victims of the war there. I would love to work in Africa, but I would be fine with dealing with paperwork. Whatever I can do to help! This is mainly why want to go to UCSD - they are stationed in San Diego.
I signed up for their newsletter a little while ago and they actually sent out job applications! If only I was old enough to get a work permit! (And live in San Diego. I live a few hours above there, so I couldn't really drive there daily.)
But anyway. I'm really exicted about building a house. Sadly, being 5'1" and around 100 pounds, I'm not exactly the big builder type. At least, not physically. So I'm pretty hyped I'll get to do it at least once.
My summer vacation is pretty much over because after I go, I have band camp. And then, if I really want to (and my parents aren't broke by then - Tecaté costs $500 and Marching band is around $500) I can go to a summer camp on a lake. Fun stuff. Pretty good timing too because I have been lazy lately and just when I'm starting to get bored (not completely though. Thank God for the library) my actual summer 'events' are starting.
It's strange to think that summer vacation is half way done. It's also strange that I don't think that sophomore year is going to be as fun as freshman year. People always say that freshman year is the worst for certain reasons, but I liked it. Maybe it's because my school is so small there isn't enough room for extreme stereotypes. I had a lot of friends that were seniors! (From my school and the school I would have gone to. My school is a magnet school aka the Geek School. But I like it.) I'm going to miss them.
Esther
